Excitement: My Journey to the GRAMMYS
My online journey towards the 53rd Annual GRAMMY® Awards began a few months ago when I examined my thoughts on rap & hip-hop and started using the Music Mapper iPhone app to share my musical ramblings with the world. And let’s not forget the various plugs and thoughts I’ve been sharing on the Friday Favecast ever since the GRAMMY® nominees were announced in December. Now the physical journey has begun. I just touched down in Salt Lake City to catch my connecting flight to Los Angeles.
I was talking with my writing mentor/partner-in-crime/fellow GRAMMY® blogger, Will Dawson, about how the excitement hadn’t truly “hit” me yet. I thought a wave of uncontrollable zeal would overwhelm me when I got my GRAMMY week itinerary or when my Delta flight itinerary came through. I just knew I’d be bouncing off the walls when my Hilton reservation was confirmed or when I started getting a flow of emails outlining the hectic schedule, pending reconnections with my GRAMMY® bloggers and confirmations that I’ll be hanging with loads of musical heroes over the next few days.
I remained calm through it all…until.
I was at my computer cranking out today’s episode of A Pug Named Fender while listening to my iTunes library. My random playlist was vibing from Eric Roberson to Faith Evans, back to Drake and Jamie Foxx and then smoothing out with some Lalah Hathaway. With vibrant colors in my eyes and surreal music in my ears, I literally forgot about space and time. It was just that moment. The melodies. The voices. The boom bap.
The music.
And that’s when it hit me that I am embarking on a journey towards music’s biggest night and gathering unforgettable memories along the way with some amazing artists, writers and friends. I get to create these memories with my wife and friends who mean the world to me all year long. That place that transcends space and time will recur over and over during this week and that is what makes my heart sing (no pun intended).
As I stare out at the mountains, I know that even higher heights of musical excellence, positive energy and fun-filled nights await me in L.A. I’ll be sure to share this journey through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. so stay tuned.
