Ideal Situation
My hesitation to make decisions -- personal or professional -- has often come from my belief that I must wait until I have the ideal situation. Despite the blessings and accomplishments in my life, I'm sure this type of thinking has caused me to miss out on some amazing opportunities or prolonged my development in certain areas.
I recently finished reading REWORK by Jason Fried and David Heinmeier Hansson. The majority of their tenets reaffirmed the wisdom I've picked up over the years concerning business, life and even social media. The concept that struck me the hardest was "decisions are progress" (p76-78). The only way I can truly move forward in life is found in my willingness to make choices with my existing resources, commitment-fueled discipline and radical faith.
I've seen how this mentality has been beneficial in my life -- I didn't wait until I had the idea situation to start the Friday Favecast. In the beginning, I had a $7 Memorex microphone, a Sony laptop, an old copy of Cool Edit Pro (before it was Adobe Audition) and a kitchen table. I used what I had and poured my passion for good music and encouragement into those tools. During that time, I wanted the Macbook and sexy microphone, but it wasn't in the budget. I believe those humble beginnings are what created the foundation on which my podcast rests today.
I can't wait until I'm "right with the Lord" in order increase my prayer life. I can't wait until I feel like working out ('cause it may NEVER happen *LOL*). I can't wait until the economy picks up to further my career or search for new clients. I can't wait until I have the ideal situation because the ideal situation is what I'm looking to create.
Can you dig it?
