Cleanse Master

master-cleanse-diet_1

I started my Master Cleanse process today — I had no choice.

I was already contemplating on doing the cleanse as a spiritual and symbolic way to rid myself of all the toxins of 2009; but after getting on the scale, the ugly truth stared at me with its digital-numeric eyes and I realized getting back on the wagon (of better health) was imperative.

Today is Day 1 of 10 of lemons, cayenne pepper, distilled water, Grade B maple syrup, sea salt water, senna tea, green tea and denying my body so my spirit can get what it needs. This, along with less online activity and more analog engagement (i.e., reading, walking, praying) should help get my body, mind and soul right.

I will capture my thoughts here. I might do some video but that will be dependent on how irritable I am and (honestly) I’m pretty damn irritable right now.

But that’s what this is all about right?

Until next time.

Vik+Nic = Electric Love [Nicolay Remix] by Vikter Duplaix

viknic

Vikter Duplaix has appeared in the liner notes / production credits of my favorite artists (i.e., Erykah Badu, Jazzanova, Eric Benet, etc.). His International Affairs LP piqued my interest while Bold and Beautiful truly made me a fan.

Nicolay is one of my favorite producers. From my introduction to him via Foreign Exchange‘s Connected to their GRAMMY-nominated single “Daykeeper,” his innovative perspective on soul music and experimental beats continues to be a huge inspiration for me.

These two creative forces have come together to conjure a remix of Vikter’s current single, “Electric Love.” The remix is driven by Nicolay’s syncopated, edgy rhythms, while the melody flows through a journey of sensational funk only found in the world of Duplaix.

Give it a listen below and be sure to get the FREE download exclusively at Vikter’s site — a special Christmas gift from them to you :)

The Beauty Created Remixed

TBC Remixed

I’ve been a fan of Jesse Boykins III ever since I discovered “Pantyhose” at the beginning of the year. His album, The Beauty Created, has quite a few jams I’ve played over at the FFC and his version of “No One Else” on the Men Love Mary mixtape was stellar as well.

So when I got this tweet about his newly released remix album, I had to show love. The Beauty Created Remixed features Melo-X, AFTA-1 and other incredible producers working their magic on Jesse’s vocals. Here’s what he has to say about the project:

“The Beauty Created Remixed is my gift to you, my fans and followers of my journey thru music. I just wanted to take the time out and say thank you to the supporters who come to my shows and who have bought my albums and help spread the word about Jesse Boykins III & The Beauty Created. Thank you to all the producers who help add to this painting. Please keep spreading the love and I’ll do the same. Hope you enjoy and Happy Holidays.”

I highly recommend that you download this album and start spinning immediately within your audio player of choice.

10 Things I Learned While Producing “Men Love Mary”

menlovemary-cover-3

For the past couple of months, I’ve been working with the cool kids at SoulBounce – a popular online music & culture magazine. This relationship has afforded me to contribute to a myriad of projects. One in particular was the Men Love Mary: A Tribute to My Life mixtape that was released as a free digital download on 2 December. The project features eleven (11) of today’s progressive, male soul singers and producers — paying homage to Mary J. Blige on the 15th anniversary of her most critically acclaimed album.

favetiredThis arguably the largest undertaking SoulBounce has endured in its 2-year history and I was blessed to be at the helm of its production. It was an opportunity to go beyond the confines of writing and challenge my musical inclinations which, unexpectedly, led me on a journey more vast than I ever imagined.

This experience taught me ten (10) valuable things — most of which were simply principles needing reinforcement while others spoke to my basic privilege of being a world citizen as well as a musician. Overall, transforming this “conference call concept” into a tangible work of art has increased my wisdom, challenged my creativity and encouraged me to become a better person.
