The Erro Points in My Direction

When I resurrected Friday Favecast (FFC) in 2007, I wanted to go beyond 2-3 minute sound bites and produce a full-length podcast featuring the music of my favorite soul and hip hop artists. Dwele, Sy Smith, Little Brother, Choklate and Raheem DeVaughn weren't (and still aren't IMO) getting the shine they deserved and the FFC was going to be my online vehicle to share their gift with the world.

In the midst of all these dynamic singers and MCs, my personal favorite is Eric Roberson. I respect his artistry as a singer, songwriter, performer and all around hustler. I've never attended a show, but I live vicariously through my Soulbounce family who catch his shows each time he comes to the East Coast. His entire catalogue is kept in my iTunes library as well as my iPod. I even have the songs he's written for other artists (i.e., Musiq Soulchild, 112, etc.). I believe Eric embodies the essence of what it means to be an independent soul music artist in the 21st century and I dreamed to interview him on my show.

Over the past two years, I've been blessed to use the FFC as a means to entertain, encourage and uplift listeners across the world with great music, funny skits and engaging interviews with various artists. Meanwhile, Eric was touring the US and UK while penning songs for his upcoming album.

I stepped up my audio production game from a PC, Cool Edit Pro (software) and a $7 Memorex microphone - to a Macbook Pro, GarageBand and high quality condenser mic. I continued to polish my sound and formatting and Erro continued to record new music, make YouTube videos and promised to drop a new album before the end of 2009.

On yesterday, our paths finally crossed - I interviewed Eric Roberson for the Friday Favecast. The episode will air on August 28th and feature songs from his album as well as old favorites. Our conversation was candid and fun as we talked about his songs, how he defines success and managing family life with a music career.

This was more than an interview for me, it was a milestone. It was the reward for consistency and resilience. I've conducted several interviews with singers, authors, musicians and personal heroes. . .but interviewing Eric was the manifestation of something I spoke into existence over two years ago. This was harvest. My goal was completed.

Erro remains one of my favorite soul singers in my generation. After speaking with him, I have even more respect as he is an exemplary human being, man and husband in addition to being a great talent. He reminded me that completion is what matters.

I can't wait to edit and produce my upcoming FFC episode. It will literally be a dream come true.

Until next time. . .
