thickum thursday

This is my personal declaration of Thickum Thursday – a moment in time dedicated to acknowledging and appreciating the thickness in our universe.

Derived from the Urban Dictionary:

1 thickum (THIK-um) n. [women] who are a little bigger. . .in a good way.

It’s no secret, I believe “thick” ladies are very beautiful. This is not an absolute, as a man’s preference varies by individual, but my personal preference are the bountiful curves that comprise their sultry silhouette. I even married who one would consider a “thickum” and while her personality, personal goals, spiritual beliefs and lifestyle were the deciding factor – her being a little bigger (in a good way) totally satisfied my aesthetic desires in a life partner. Just being real.

On this Thursday (today) take time to admire the thickums within your universe. They’re everywhere. Thickness represents prosperity and abundance; it’s a state of mind as well as a demographic for Ashley Stewart and Lane Bryant. Even the “horizontally challenged” can have a thickum state of mind and it shows: confidence, self-assurance, high-self esteem are residuals of having “thicotine” in your system. No one is exempt.

Being a thickum may have originated with the shapely physical sizes of millions, but it transcends anatomy and blessed are those who can witness and experience thickness on multiple levels for I believe that is the true epitome of wonderful.

Being thick is not about pressing your boobs together to form a plumber’s crack in your ample cleavage nor donning a butt-hugging pair of jeans with a thong that has as much control of your bootyliciousness as a 3rd grade crossing guard has in a downtown New York intersection. If you like to put your goodies in the window, do you. In my opinion, it’s more about the curves – wrapped tastefully in attire that charges your imagination. As one person stated online, “They feel better in your arms when you hug them. They fill out their clothes nicer. They just look sexier and healthier than stick figure chicks.

I recall the anticipation I once felt for Thursdays when it was Cosby/Different World night or Martin/Living Single/NY Undercover night. I want that feeling back. Thickum Thursday is about anticipation of a celebration rather than exploitation. Thickum Thursday embraces the Model Minority.

Whether in the office, out in the streets, relaxing at the pool or getting cheese on your #3 value meal – take a moment to discover the thickums around you. It’s a beautiful thing.

Celebrate thickness today and beyond.

Get it together

Last night I rehearsed with my band for the first time in months. With the return of our (previous) drummer and the addition of a (new) lead guitarist, I was able to pick up the new tunes on the keys without incident. We jammed for about a half hour before we got into our “covers” including:

The return of the baker’s dozen

bbqdavares

Back in the day, some bloggers would chronicle their weekend with what was called the Baker’s Dozen. The rules were simple:

  • Highlight 12 things you did over the weekend
  • Include a least 3 links (to other sites)
  • Use a picture (from the weekend) at the top of the list
  • It’s a lost art that I’m resurrecting today. Let’s go.

    I can dig it

Skullcandy is so sweet as they caress my ears and administer my daily musical therapy. It’s time to vacate the workplace and invest in the creation of happy, productive moments. There’s so much I want to do and, although I am making progress, I cannot help but wonder if I can be doing more.

    Has it been that long…

Since I wrote a blog post? Between Twitter, the Friday Favecast and Podcamp Houston, I have neglected the site that started it all. . .this one. Despite being busy, I am in the process of retooling my online presence and sub-alter egos (I’ll explain later) with blogging as an important component of that redesign. As my life propels into a direction of copious opportunities and challenges, I won’t wait another three months to chronicle the journey.
