Keep it Movin’

It's no secret that the Friday Favecast did not win the Black Weblog Award for Best Podcast this year. I was initially disappointed that my podcast was overlooked, but I did make it to the finals...which is cool.

But let's be real.

I understand my purpose is to use my gifts to encourage / motivate people. I believe in excellence whether I'm working in the office or staying up all night completing a favecast episode. Over the past year I have coordinated music round tables, conducted celebrity interviews, upgraded to a Mac, co-hosted shows with my wife and redesigned my site over three times. Regardless of the popularity contest of the BWAs, I know that the FFC is better, stronger, faster, growner and sexier than it's ever been.

So what happened?

Do I feel that the winning podcasts are better than mine? Absolutely not. The winning podcasts are merely digitally recorded phone conversations posted on a blog. In terms of production, content, flow, site design and originality. . .my show is better. I know of a lot of shows that are better - but it's not about being better...it's about being voted on. That's where I fell short.

It hurts when I think of the long nights and hard work I put into the FFC. When you factor in family, work and other creative endeavors (i.e., screenwriting, web design, etc.) - it gets even crazier. Last Thursday, I came home from a 10-hour workday and literally crashed on my bed. I woke up - 12 hours later - to the news of my defeat and realization that I hadn't produced the favecast for the week.

Oh well.

I'm human. The beautiful thing about the human spirit is our resilience. Despite my disappointment of not having excellence recognized, I am at peace with the BWA loss because I've won in so many other areas. It would have been cool to be validated by my peers, but I validate myself. I give 110% to the FFC and the listeners know this. I know this. I have no regrets. I've done my best and my best is damn good. So what's next?
We keep it movin'. . .

Until next time.
